Overview
A miniature sport of an unidentified parent, registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Kate's Legacy' is distinguished by its small, mound-like habit and white leaf margins that are heavily rippled and folded. The ovate leaves, reaching 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) in length and 1 inch (2.5 cm) in width, feature creamy white centers with variable green speckles and stripes, bordered by dark green, ruffled edges 0.06 to 0.13 inches (0.2 to 0.3 cm) wide.
In the Garden
'Kate's Legacy' reaches a mature diameter of 6 inches (15.2 cm) and a height of 3 inches (7.6 cm), forming a compact mound with a medium to fast growth rate. It is suitable for shade to partial shade, typical of hostas, and pairs well with other miniature perennials such as small ferns or *Heuchera* in rock gardens or troughs. Its diminutive size makes it an excellent choice for containers, where the folded, ruffled leaf margins are readily observed.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly in shaded, moist conditions.
