Overview
Registered in 2011 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Oh Cindy', 'Jayka' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with creamy yellow-white margins that fade to white, and by irregular streaking and speckling in shades of green and white across the leaf blade. The ovate leaves, measuring 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, have slightly rippled margins and a slightly shiny upper surface with a dull underside.
In the Garden
'Jayka' forms a mound-like clump 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for variegated hostas, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or shaded beds. Its medium size and compact habit make it appropriate for mixed perennial plantings; companion plants might include ferns, heucheras, or shade-tolerant groundcovers.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Jayka' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
