Overview
Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Cosmic Passion' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Wahoo' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Blue Belly' (pollen parent). This cultivar is visually distinctive for its green leaves with broad, streaked margins that combine greenish yellow, yellow, greenish white, and creamy white tones, creating a highly variegated, colorful appearance.
In the Garden
*Hosta* 'Cosmic Passion' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height and 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its thick, corrugated foliage provides substantial textural interest. The broad, wavy leaves with cordate bases make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shade gardens, pairing well with ferns, astilbes, or other fine-textured perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
