Registered in 2015 by J. Lilley and M. Gilligan, 'Jan's Gift' is a small hosta cultivar originating as a sport of unknown parentage. Its leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, featuring dark green, slightly rippled margins surrounding creamy white centers, with 7 to 9 pairs of veins and a heavy texture.

In the Garden

Reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in both height and diameter with an upright, moderate growth habit, 'Jan's Gift' is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its small size and heavy-textured foliage make it appropriate for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, where it pairs well with ferns or small woodland perennials. The plant's compact dimensions also suit container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
