Overview

Registered in 2000 from self-pollinated parentage (*H.* 'HB-87-1'), *Hosta* 'His Honor' is a giant cultivar distinguished by its large, medium green leaves with greenish-yellow margins. The foliage is slightly rippled at the margins, with a cordate base, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a dull underside.

In the Garden

'HIs Honor' forms a substantial mound 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in shaded borders. The green and gold leaf coloration pairs well with dark-leaved perennials such as *Heuchera* or ferns.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. 'His Honor' is susceptible to slug damage, so monitor foliage and apply control measures as needed; deer may also browse the leaves.
