Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Greenie Weenie' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Starboard Lights'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Rod's Gold'* (pollen parent). The plant is visually distinctive for its broadly ovate, deeply corrugated leaves with green centers and greenish-yellow, slightly rippled margins, combined with a moderate cupping and light twisting of the leaf blade.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms an upright, mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and the variegation is noted as very good under these conditions. The medium size and upright habit make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, which can affect foliage quality.
