Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Aquarius' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from open pollination of *Hosta* 'Rainforest Sunrise'. It is visually distinctive for its broadly ovate, dull green leaves with greenish-yellow, flat margins, a heavy, almost rubbery leaf substance, and good sun tolerance that helps it hold color well.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height. It performs best in partial shade to light sun, where its sun tolerance allows it to maintain leaf color without scorching. Suitable companions include ferns, *Heuchera*, and *Astilbe* in woodland or border settings; its medium size makes it appropriate for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in typical hosta-growing zones.
