H. ‘Green Flash’

Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Green Flash' is a sport of *H.* 'Ogon Tachi' that produces a medium-sized clump of ovate, medium green leaves with flat, golden yellow margins approximately 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) wide. The foliage is slightly shiny on the upper surface and very shiny beneath, with 9 to 10 pairs of veins and a lightly wavy margin.

In the Garden

'Green Flash' forms an upright mound reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with scapes rising 36 to 40 inches (91.4 to 101.6 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain brightest, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds. Its moderate growth rate and medium size make it a reliable companion for ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
