Overview
Registered in 2002 by Paul Ruh, 'Ogon Tachi' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its ovate, intensely twisted leaves with green centers and greenish yellow, slightly rippled margins, combined with a light greenish yellow scape and golden-toned foliage.
In the Garden
'Ogon Tachi' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, where its variegated leaves hold their color. The plant's medium size and textured foliage make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds, paired with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
