Overview

Registered in 1990 by Klehm Nursery, this giant sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Angel' is distinguished by its substantial variegated foliage, featuring dark green margins surrounding a lighter leaf center. The plant reaches 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height and spreads to 68 inches (172.7 cm) in diameter, with individual leaves measuring 18 inches (45.7 cm) long and 14 inches (35.6 cm) wide, bearing 13 to 14 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, where its large, textured leaves develop optimal coloration. Its giant mature size—nearly 6 feet across—makes it suitable as a specimen plant or as a bold accent in woodland borders and shade gardens. Companion plants should be chosen for contrasting form and scale, such as ferns, *Astilbe*, or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrents are advisable, as the broad leaves are attractive to both pests.
