Overview

Registered in 1989 by W. & E. Lachman, this small hosta cultivar arose from a seedling pollinated by *Hosta* 'Reversed'. It is visually defined by its dark green leaves with gold margins and cordate (heart-shaped) leaf bases.

In the Garden

'Hosta' 'Carousel' reaches approximately 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or dwarf ornamental grasses that complement its compact form.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many small-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in garden settings.
