Overview
Registered in 1988 by Mrs. E. Hodgkin, *Hosta* 'Shelleys' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its medium green leaves with narrow (0.6 cm), yellow-gold, undulating margins.
In the Garden
'H Shelleys' reaches a mature height of approximately 15–20 cm and a spread of 30–40 cm, making it suitable for the front of a shaded border or rock garden. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain brightest without scorching. Companion plants include small ferns, *Heuchera*, and *Carex*. Its compact size also makes it an excellent choice for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
