Overview
Registered in 2009 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Halcyon', 'Bulletproof' is distinguished by its notably thicker leaf substance than its parent, which imparts exceptional durability. Its foliage displays a medium blue-green color with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, forming a dense, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
This medium-sized hosta reaches approximately 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved cultivars, where its thick leaves resist scorch and maintain color. The broadly ovate, moderately corrugated leaves with cordate bases and lightly wavy margins pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. The thick foliage provides above-average slug resistance, though standard slug control measures are still advisable in persistently damp conditions.
