Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Blue Wu' is a large hybrid between *H.* 'Skylight' and *H.* 'Empress Wu'. It is distinguished by its nearly round, blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and pronounced vein definition that contributes to a uniform, layered appearance.
In the Garden
'Blue Wu' reaches a mature clump diameter of 30 inches (76.2 cm) and a height of 19 inches (48.3 cm), with upright foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones. The substantial blue-green leaves provide strong textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
