Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Blue Pointer' is a large, mound-forming cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, derived from *H. 'Tokudama Aurenebulosa'*. It is visually distinctive for its broadly ovate, pointed leaves of bright blue-green, which bear a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and exhibit lightly wavy, lightly corrugated texture.
In the Garden
'Blue Pointer' forms a dense, slow-growing mound 19 inches (48.3 cm) tall and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its blue foliage pairs well with yellow- or chartreuse-leaved companions, such as *H. 'Sum and Substance'* or *Carex elata 'Aurea'*. The plant is not suited to container culture due to its large mature size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Blue Pointer' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
