Overview

Registered in 2003 by P. & J. Ruh, 'Blaugold' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins and upright growth habit. The leaf blade is ovate with a flat base, dull on both surfaces, and exhibits moderate waviness, light folding, and light corrugation; the gold margin is greenish yellow, becoming greener near the tip, with slightly rippled edges.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter at maturity, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its upright form makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. The blue-green to light purple scapes, rising 32 to 37 inches (81.3 to 94.0 cm) tall, bear yellow flowers with shades of green.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur in garden settings.
