Overview

Registered in 2010, 'Vortex' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Whirlwind Tour' and is classified as a medium-sized cultivar. Its most distinctive feature is the heavily misted green-and-white leaf center, which transitions to a dark green, flat margin, creating a pronounced variegated effect.

In the Garden

'Vortex' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 33 inches (83.8 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its moderate size suits it for mixed shade borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in a container. The blue-green foliage with white margins pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Vortex' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate deterrents are recommended.
