Overview

Registered in 1997 by P. Ruh from stock originated by Skylands Nursery, *Hosta* 'Snow Mound' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its variegated foliage: dark green, slightly rippled leaves with a very shiny upper and lower surface. The leaf blade measures 5.63 inches (14.3 cm) long and 2.63 inches (6.7 cm) wide, with six vein pairs and a flat base.

In the Garden

'Snow Mound' reaches a mature spread of 20 inches (50.8 cm) and a height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), with a moderate growth rate and a dense, mound-like habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants might include ferns, heucheras, or small woodland perennials that complement its low, rounded form.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Snow Mound' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
