Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Hidden Cove' registered in 2009, 'Smuggler's Cove' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its lanceolate leaves with medium green margins and a narrow, irregular central variegation. The leaf base is rounded, and each leaf bears six to seven vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Smuggler's Cove' reaches a mature diameter of 26 inches (66 cm) and a height of 12 inches (30.5 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its compact size. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, and shade-tolerant groundcovers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and take protective measures if necessary.
