Overview

'Green Bag' was registered in 2014 as an all-green sport of 'Lakeside Little Tuft'. The leaf is a dull green lance, 5.5 in by 3.125 in with 8 vein pairs, lightly corrugated, with a tapered base. The AHS registry record gives medium lavender bell flowers from July 1 to August 30, peaking around July 15, in Noordwijk, the Netherlands.

The clump is registered as upright and fast-growing, 15.75 in across and 12 in high. Its green scapes are 15.75 in.

How it compares

'Lakeside Little Tuft' is the variegated parent. It is a yellow-gold leaf with a green margin of 0.75 in, very shiny on both sides, registered as an upright clump 4.5 in high and 10 in across. 'Green Bag' has neither the gold nor the shine; it is registered larger and as fast-growing, where the parent is registered at a moderate rate.

'Temple Bells' is a medium green alternative of similar size: 12 in high and 18 in across, with a 6.5 in by 3.5 in rippled, slightly shiny leaf and a 13 in scape. Its pod parent was a hybrid of an unvariegated seedling of 'Beatrice', and its flowers are recorded as deep purple. Pick it if deep purple flowers and a slightly shiny leaf matter more than a fast registered growth rate; the leaf of 'Green Bag' is dull.

'Sweet Winifred' is the other small green to consider, registered as a tight clump 8 in high and 14 in across, with scapes of 28 in and white flowers; 'Green Bag' has lavender flowers on 15.75 in scapes.
