Overview
Registered in 2000 as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Fall Bouquet', 'Prairie Angel' is a small-sized variegated hosta with medium green margins and a lighter center. Its leaves measure 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) in length and 2.75 inches (7.0 cm) in width, giving the plant a compact, tidy appearance.
In the Garden
'Prairie Angel' performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage remains most vibrant. As a small hosta, it reaches a mature height of approximately 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) with a spread of 12–18 inches (30–45 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or woodland edges. It pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and tiarellas, and is an excellent candidate for container cultivation due to its compact size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and take preventive measures if these pests are present in the garden.
