Overview

Registered in 1980 by M. Kiehne, this small hosta cultivar is a sport of an unnamed parent. Its leaves are dark green, irregularly streaked with white margins, creating a variegated appearance that is somewhat variable from leaf to leaf.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Minnesota Weather' reaches a mature height of 12 to 18 inches (30.5 cm) and spreads to a diameter of 45 inches (114.3 cm), making it suitable for the front of a border or as a groundcover in partial to full shade. Its small size and mounding habit pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. It is also appropriate for container culture.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed.
