Overview

Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'Midnight Mistress' is a sport of *H. 'Rosedale Shady Lady'* and is distinguished by its glossy, dark green leaves with irregular gold margins and prominent streaking. The foliage is broadly ovate with cordate bases, lightly wavy and corrugated, and highly reflective on both surfaces.

In the Garden

This medium-sized cultivar forms an upright clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain most vivid. The 9-inch-long, 7-inch-wide leaves with nine vein pairs create a substantial textural presence; companion plants such as ferns or *Heuchera* in contrasting colors complement its glossy foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
