Registered in 1999 by an unknown breeder, *Hosta* 'Lydia Scheu' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with pale yellow, heavily rippled margins. The foliage is dull on both surfaces, with a rounded base and eight to ten pairs of veins.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 29 inches (73.7 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where its gold-margined leaves provide contrast against darker green or blue-leaved companions such as *Hosta* 'Halcyon' or ferns. Its medium size suits mid-border positions or mixed shade beds.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the dull leaf surface may be less resistant to damage than glossy varieties.
