Overview
Registered in 2002 as a sport of an unidentified parent, *Hosta* 'Lovey Dovey' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its upright habit and small, ovate leaves with light green centers and creamy white margins. The leaves measure 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) long and 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide, with six vein pairs and a slightly shiny upper surface contrasting with a very shiny underside.
In the Garden
With a mature clump diameter of 5 inches (12.7 cm) and height of 12 inches (30.5 cm), 'Lovey Dovey' is well suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. Its upright growth habit and moderate growth rate make it an effective edging plant in partial to full shade, where its variegated leaves provide consistent contrast. The small scale also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where its compact form can be appreciated at close range.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Lovey Dovey' may require protection from slugs and deer in typical hosta-growing zones.
