Overview
Registered in 2002 by P. Ruh, 'Kifukurin Ubatake' is a miniature hosta of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its small, ovate leaves of medium green with narrow, creamy white margins that are slightly rippled, and by its compact, slow-growing mound.
In the Garden
This miniature hosta reaches a mature diameter of 6 inches (15.2 cm) and a height of 3.75 inches (9.5 cm), forming a tidy, mound-like clump. It is suitable for shaded or partially shaded sites in typical hosta-growing zones and works well in rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a border. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where it can be paired with other diminutive shade perennials such as miniature ferns or small sedges.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary, though the small leaf size can make slug damage less conspicuous.
