Registered in 2004 by Lakeside Acres, this miniature hosta forms a compact mound of bright green leaves with narrow, flat, yellow margins. The foliage is distinguished by a pronounced waxy or "slick" finish that gives the leaf surface a highly reflective sheen, a trait referenced in the cultivar name.

In the Garden

Reaching 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and spreading to 13 inches (33.0 cm) in diameter, 'Lakeside Slick Chick' is well-suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. Its small size and fast growth rate make it an effective groundcover in partial to full shade, where its glossy green and gold variegation brightens darker areas. It pairs well with other miniature hostas, small ferns, or woodland ephemerals and performs admirably in containers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
