Overview

Registered in 2002 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Kinbotan' is a miniature cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its compact mound of light green leaves with narrow, flat gold margins. The leaves are ovate with tapered bases, lightly cupped, and measure 1.75 inches (4.4 cm) long by 0.88 inches (2.2 cm) wide, with four vein pairs; the upper surface is dull, while the underside is slightly shiny.

In the Garden

'HKinbotan' forms a tight, compact clump reaching 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in diameter and 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height, with a fast growth rate. It is suitable for shaded or partially shaded positions in typical hosta-growing zones, and its miniature stature makes it an excellent choice for troughs, rock gardens, or the front of a border. Companion plants might include small ferns or dwarf *Heuchera* cultivars that complement its scale.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
