Overview

Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Just for Jane' is a large, mound-forming cultivar originating from a cross between *H. 'Pin Stripe'* (pod parent) and an unnamed seedling (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinguished by its dark green leaves with pale yellow to very white margins, a trait that becomes more pronounced as the season progresses.

In the Garden

'Just for Jane' reaches a mature size of 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and is suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen plant in woodland gardens. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 10 inches (25.4 cm) long by 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, feature 11 vein pairs, a cordate base, and lightly wavy, slightly rippled margins; the leaf surface is slightly shiny above and dull beneath. Companion plants that thrive in similar conditions include ferns, astilbes, and heucheras.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
