Overview

Registered in 2013 as an open-pollinated seedling, *Hosta* 'Hokey Pokey' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with golden yellow margins and a notably neat, mound-like growth habit. The broadly ovate, lightly wavy leaves measure 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) wide, with slightly rippled margins and a cordate base.

In the Garden

'Hokey Pokey' forms a compact mound 20 inches (50.8 cm) tall and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its tidy habit makes it suitable for edging, mass plantings, or as a specimen in shaded borders. The yellow-green scapes, reaching 28 to 35 inches (71.1 to 88.9 cm) in height, bear flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, especially in warmer climates, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed.
