Registered in 1997 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Hirao Majesty' is a large, mound-forming cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its variegated foliage: dark green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a dull upper surface, and a very shiny underside.

In the Garden

'Hirao Majesty' forms a substantial clump reaching 39 inches (99.1 cm) in diameter and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its large, textured leaves provide a strong presence in the border or as a specimen. Companion plants might include ferns, *Heuchera*, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its broad, dark green foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
