Overview

Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster, *Hosta* 'Groovy' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its medium green leaves with white margins and occasional pure white streaking. The broadly ovate, lightly cupped foliage measures 7.25 inches (18.4 cm) long by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with 8 to 10 vein pairs and a slightly shiny upper surface.

In the Garden

'Groovy' forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump reaching 41 inches (104.1 cm) in diameter and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its thick, substantial leaves and white-edged variegation pair well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The green scapes rise 38 to 40 inches (96.5 to 101.6 cm) above the foliage.

Care Notes

Plant in well-drained, organically rich soil and water regularly during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. 'Groovy' exhibits typical hosta resistance to deer but may require slug control in damp conditions.
