Overview

Registered in 2002, *Hosta* 'Fragrant Light' is a small-sized cultivar originating as a sport of a streaked selection of *H. 'Fragrant Bouquet'. Its most distinctive feature is a large cream-white leaf center bordered by a medium green margin with greenish-yellow streaks extending into the central area, creating a two-toned effect.

In the Garden

'Fragrant Light' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hosta-growing zones, and is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation due to its small stature. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, and shade-tolerant annuals that complement its cream and green foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, applying water at the base to avoid leaf spotting. Fertilize lightly in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed with appropriate barriers or repellents.
