Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Whirlwind', 'Eternal Flame' was registered in 1999 by H. Hansen and Shady Oaks Nursery. This medium-sized cultivar is visually defined by its upright, vase-shaped habit and leaves with creamy white centers bordered by wide, dark green margins.
In the Garden
'Eternal Flame' reaches a mature size of 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its bright leaf centers provide contrast in shaded borders or woodland gardens. The plant's medium size suits it for the middle of a mixed perennial bed or as a specimen in a container.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Eternal Flame' may be damaged by slugs and deer, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
