Year registered1998
Section classIII-5b

Overview

Registered in 1998, this medium-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Electra' is distinguished by its dark green leaves with broad, golden yellow margins that are slightly rippled. The foliage presents a two-toned effect, with the bright margins contrasting against the darker leaf centers.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Electrifying' reaches a mature diameter of approximately 28 inches (71 cm) and a height of 22 inches (56 cm), with upright scapes extending 35 to 45 inches (89–114 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its moderate growth rate and medium size make it suitable for border fronts or woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slug and deer resistance is not absolute, the slightly waxy leaf surface may offer some deterrence against slugs.
