Hosta ‘Ebb Tide’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered1997
Section classIII-5b

Overview

Registered in 1997, this medium-sized sport of an unidentified parent displays dark green leaves with wide, yellow-gold margins that feature heavy rippling. The foliage is slightly shiny on the upper surface and very shiny beneath, with a rounded base and ten vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Ebb Tide' forms an upright clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials. The substantial leaf size and upright habit make it suitable for mid-border positions in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for these pests in moist conditions.
