Overview

Registered in 2005 by P. & J. Ruh, this small sport of *Hosta* 'Halcyon' is distinguished by its dark green, flat leaf margins and very shiny upper surface, contrasting with a slightly shiny underside. The ovate leaves, measuring 6.75 inches (17.1 cm) long and 4.13 inches (10.5 cm) wide, are moderately cupped and folded, with a flat base and 10 vein pairs.

In the Garden

With a mature diameter of 23.5 inches (59.7 cm) and height of 18 inches (45.7 cm), 'Devon Green' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump suitable for small borders, rock gardens, or front-of-bed positions. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other small-leaved shade perennials. Its compact size also makes it appropriate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slug resistance is not documented, the thick, shiny leaf texture may offer some deterrence; monitor for deer browsing in areas where this is a concern.
