Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance', 'Crickett Bailedout' was registered in 2007 and is classified as a giant cultivar. It is distinguished by its very large, nearly round leaves that are dark green with a broad, golden yellow, slightly rippled margin, and by its notably shiny upper and lower leaf surfaces.
In the Garden
This hosta forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 72 inches (183 cm) in diameter and 36 inches (91 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margin maintains good color without scorching. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in large borders, where it can be paired with fine-textured ferns or shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, to support optimal leaf size. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed.
