Overview
Registered in 2008 by W. Lefever, this giant hosta cultivar ('Galaxy' × unknown pollen parent) forms a substantial mound of blue-green foliage edged in yellow. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, measuring 12 inches long and 10 inches wide, with 12 to 13 vein pairs and a glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The margins, 0.75 to 1 inch wide, are yellow (not gold or cream) and slightly rippled, while the leaf blade is moderately folded, lightly wavy, and lightly corrugated.
In the Garden
'Frost Giant' reaches 28 inches in height and 66 inches in diameter at maturity, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to moderate shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom and yellow margin coloration are most stable. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in woodland gardens, paired with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials. The green scapes rise 36 to 38 inches above the foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. The thick leaf substance offers moderate slug resistance, though standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions. Deer may browse young foliage.
