Overview

Registered in 2010 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Flash of Light', 'Cosmic Flash' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its dark green leaves with greenish-yellow to creamy white streaked margins. The leaves are nearly round with cordate bases, moderately cupped and lightly folded, with slightly rippled margins and moderate corrugation.

In the Garden

'Cosmic Flash' forms a mound-like clump reaching 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height and 41 inches (104.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its substantial leaf texture and variegation provide contrast when paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. The dark green scapes, reaching 38 to 40 inches (96.5 to 101.6 cm), bear flowers typical of the genus.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard precautions against slugs and deer are advisable, as with most hostas.
