Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Candlelight' is a sport of *Hosta* 'White Vision' with an unknown pollen parent. This medium-sized cultivar is visually distinctive for its upright, slow-growing habit and striking gold leaf margins that contrast with a green center, combined with a unique cobblestone-like texture on the leaf surface.

In the Garden

'Candlelight' forms a dense, upright clump reaching 24 inches (61 cm) in both height and diameter at maturity. Its ovate leaves with cordate bases and wavy margins tolerate typical hosta-growing zones, performing best in partial to full shade. The deep gold, slightly rippled margins and dull leaf surfaces make it an effective accent plant in shaded borders or woodland gardens, where its slow growth rate allows it to maintain form without aggressive spreading.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended for this cultivar, as its textured leaf surface may offer limited resistance to common pests.
