Overview

Registered in 1990 by Fairway Enterprises, 'Candle Glow' is a small hosta cultivar derived from a hybrid cross. Its most distinctive feature is the combination of green leaf centers with margins that transition from ivory to white-green to chartreuse as the season progresses.

In the Garden

Mature plants reach approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter. This small hosta performs best in partial to full shade, typical of the genus, and is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Its compact habit pairs effectively with other small perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or miniature astilbes.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Candle Glow' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
