Hosta Flower Varieties

Most hostas produce blooms during the summer, but there are, however, a few that do not. Within the varieties that do, there is a myriad of different flower types. Almost all of the hosta blooms sit atop long stems, but that is where the similarities end. The most common flower color is a light purple, but you can also find hostas with blue flowers, pink flowers, and red flowers. Most hosta blooms are in the shape of a trumpet. Some are quite large while others are very small.

Hosta Flower Colors

• Hostas with White Flowers

Aphrodite – The green of this hostas leaves is in the median of the color spectrum and it produces large, glaringly white flowers. It grows to 24 inches tall and 60 inches wide at maturity.

Barbara Ann – This hosta has leaves or a median level green that includes white margins. It is a medium to large specimen growing 18 – 20 inches tall and 35 – 47 inches wide.

Brother Ronald – This is a large variety of hosta. It grows to 24 inches tall and 40 inches wide. It has leaves of a deep azure and emerald mixture and stunning white flowers.

• Hostas with Blue Flowers

Oshima Silk – The foliage on this particular hosta is spear shaped leaves that are a shining vibrant green with white margins. It grows 10 inches tall and 24 inches in width making this one of the more petite varieties.

Lederhosen – This creatively named variety is labeled as one of the most unique hostas. It grows to 18 inches tall and 3 feet wide. It has thick, ruffled blue/green foliage.
Waukon Snow – This is one of the most gigantic hostas growing to a whopping 33 inches tall and 80 inches wide. Make sure to give this hosta plenty of room. Its leaves are a medium green.

• Hostas with Red Flowers

Akane – This hosta is in the media for size with incredible green leaves. Its name is derived from the Japanese word for red because of the beautiful red/deep maroon flowers.

Kokuryu – This variety has leaves the color of pale sunlight shining on brilliantly green grass. It is of medium size growing to be 13 inches tall and 19 inches wide.

• Hostas with Purple Flowers

Baby Bunting – This is a miniature variety of hosta with very small, almost completely round leaves. The color of the leaves is a medium green. This hosta grows to be 8 inches tall and 15 inches wide.

Cameo – This is a very diminutive variety of hosta. It only grows to a height of 4 – 6 inches and a width of 10 – 12 inches. It has small, deep green leaves that change to white around the border.

Cranberry Wine – The leaves of this hosta begin the season a bright golden yellow and then slowly turn green as the season progresses. The leaves are long and thin, with the sharp point on the end of each leaf, they resemble the blade of a sword. It grows to be 20 inches wide and 12 inches tall.

Fragrant Hostas

Any hosta that is currently in bloom, will have a pleasant fragrance. The foliage alone does not have a fragrance, only the blossoms have the ability to manage this incredible feat. There is one amazing hosta that stands above all others in the fragrance department though, the H. plantaginea. This variety has the largest blooms of any hosta and the blossoms are the most fragrant as well. The flowers are entirely white and very pleasing to the eye as well as the nose.

I have two hostas. They are the same type of Hosta but one blooms yellow flower and one blooms a green flower. It is a bushy variety of Hosta. Stays green even the winter. I once saw it in bloom in either a red or a blue flower. Would u know the name of this Hosta and if you carry the red or blue one.
