Overview

Registered in 1982 by R. Savory, this small hosta cultivar forms a compact, dense mound of blue-green foliage with distinct blue leaf margins. The leaves are broadly ovate, measuring 2.75 inches (7.0 cm) long by 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide, with five pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Baby Bunting' reaches a mature spread of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and a height of 10 inches (25.4 cm), making it suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade, though it tolerates some morning sun in cooler climates. The compact habit and small size also make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may require protection from slugs and deer in garden settings.
