Overview

Registered in 2015, Hosta 'Yukon Gold' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from Hosta 'Fat Cat' (pod parent) with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its bright golden yellow leaves, which are broadly ovate with a cordate base and display flat, golden yellow margins against a green center.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its bright foliage provides contrast when paired with darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
