Registered in 2000 by A. Malloy, *Hosta* 'Verkade's One' is a small, mound-forming cultivar of unknown parentage. Its distinguishing feature is variegated foliage with medium green margins and a cordate leaf base, combined with a compact, symmetrical habit.

In the Garden

'Verkade's One' reaches a mature spread of approximately 22 inches (55.9 cm) and a height of 10 inches (25.4 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes. Its moderate growth rate and neat mound form allow it to integrate easily into mixed shade plantings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
