Overview

Registered in 2015 by Valley, this medium-sized hosta is a cross between *Hosta* 'One Man's Treasure' and a Valley's *H. kikutii* (K3) seedling. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with golden yellow margins, combined with dark red scapes and rhubarb-like red petioles.

'Hosta Valley's Lucky Gambler' forms a mound 13.75 inches (34.9 cm) tall and 19.625 inches (49.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with other shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and astilbes. Its lance-shaped, lightly twisted leaves with moderate waviness add textural interest to border fronts or woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrents may be necessary, as hostas are susceptible to both.
