H. ‘Squirt’

Overview

Registered in 2014, *Hosta* 'Squirt' is a miniature hybrid derived from *H. venusta* as the pod parent, with an unknown pollen parent. This cultivar is visually distinguished by its small, ovate, medium green leaves with flat, gold margins and a lightly wavy edge, combined with an upright growth habit and better-than-average substance for its size class.

In the Garden

'Squirt' reaches a mature diameter of 10 inches (25.4 cm) and a height of 4 inches (10.2 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its compact size pairs well with other miniature perennials such as small ferns or *Heuchera*. The upright scapes, 10 to 12 inches (25.4 to 30.5 cm) tall, bear green flowers and add vertical interest to low plantings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While its small size may reduce slug damage, standard hosta pest management is recommended in typical hosta-growing zones.
