Hosta ‘Butterfly’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2012
Section classV-5b

Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Cricket' registered in 2012, 'Butterfly' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with narrow, greenish-yellow margins. The ovate leaves, each approximately 2 inches long and 1.5 inches wide, have cordate bases, flat surfaces, and six vein pairs, with both upper and lower surfaces dull in texture.

In the Garden

'Butterfly' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 3 inches in height and 7.5 inches in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its miniature size makes it an excellent choice for container cultivation, and it pairs effectively with other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and take protective measures if needed.
