Overview

Registered in 1998 by G. Krossa and registered by P. Ruh, this small hosta cultivar is distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins and heavy, greenish-yellow rippled edges. The leaf surface is dull above and slightly shiny beneath, with a cordate base and seven vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Hosta Show Piece' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 22.5 inches (57.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Companion plants might include small ferns, heucheras, or miniature woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and control as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
